New York push to reveal Trump’s state tax returns expected to pass state senate

According to Senate Leadership, Democratic efforts in New York state to enable the release of Trump’s state tax return are expected to pass the Senate this Wednesday.

Mike Murphy, spokesperson for Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, told CNN that he predicts the bill will pass.
“This President and his administration have repeatedly shown a true hostility to the rule of law and Presidential customs. No person is above the law and New Yorkers, as well as all Americans, deserve transparency from their elected officials at every level of government.” said Stewart-Cousins said in a statement provided by Murphy.
If passed, this bill will allow the state’s commissioner to hand over any New York tax returns at the request of the US House of Representatives Ways and Means Committee, the US Senate Finance Committee, or the Joint Committee on Taxation.
The Democratic leader of the U.S. House Ways and Mean Committee request had submitted a request to the IRS for Trump’s federal tex return but it the request was reject by Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin Monday afternoon.
A companion bill has been sent to the New York State Assembly before makes it way to the Ways and Mean Committee. Before the proposed legislation ends up Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s desk, it must be passed by both chambers first. CNN reported that Cuomo supports the bill.
