The Washington Redskins fell to the Indianapolis Colts 21-9 in their home opener yesterday. Redskins fall to 1-1 while the Colts won their first game of the season and are now 1-1.
Andrew Luck completed 21 of 39 passes for 179 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 picks. Alex Smith completed 33 out of 46 pass attempts for 292 yards. Smith threw no TDs or interceptions.
The Redskins offense struggled to produce and only came up with 9 points. Luck led the Colts and continued his 25th game with a touchdown pass. He currently has the longest active streak of that in the NFL. With this win, the Colts avoided starting 0-2 since 2013.
The Redskins, on the other hand, couldn’t get it going with the running game. After having a total of 182 yards for a league-best last week, the ground game only provided 65 yards on 22 carries. Dropped balls and lack of protection also proved to be a factor in the loss.
Coach Jay Gruden commented:
“Our running game suffered and we were pretty much one-dimensional. We didn’t have a very good run plan. … Didn’t give (Peterson) any good looks.” – Jay Gruden
The Redskins will look to bounce back against and get their first home win against the Green Bay Packers this Sunday.
