For the second time in the past three seasons, the Bowie State Women’s basketball will play in the CIAA Championship game. The Lady Bulldogs clinched their spot in the championship game following a 53-41 win over the number one seed and reigning CIAA champion Virginia Union Panthers.
Bowie State held the lead for every minute of the game leading by as many as 12 points completely flipping the script from their last game against Johnson C. Smith in which they trailed for most of the game and battling from behind on their way to a comeback win.
Senior Shawnkia McCallum led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points adding six rebounds. This comes after she went scoreless shooting 0-12 from the field in the team’s previous game.
Sophomore Drew Calhoun finished with nine points for the Bulldogs while Talanya Hutton posted eight points and five rebounds.
Senior Dy’Manee Royal led the Panthers with 12 points while Jasmine Carter finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs will look to secure their first CIAA Championship win since 1999 when they take on the Fayetteville State Broncos.
