The DMV Daily Interviews: BFG

Driven by passion and purpose, BFG is here to give music listeners a different perspective of Hip-Hop, bringing back that original sound. “BFG” stands for Bound For Glory, which is something everyone should feel every day. BFG is originally from Frederick, MD but currently resides in Baltimore, MD. BFG recently finished recording. his latest project is entitled “Belly N Da Beast”, dedicated to his late friend Double which he talks about in our conversation.

Q: Can you tell us about your latest project and talk about the inspiration and meaning behind it?

BTG:  This current project is called Belly N Da Beast. Originally the name of a duo being myself and my friend who went by Double but sadly he passed away. Once I finally finished rewriting because we never got to record anything together I finished it up and dedicated this project to him hence this now being the name of the album.

Q: Think about someone or something that may have inspired you to make music. Who was or what was it?

BTG: The biggest hip-hop inspirations would be Big L and Ll Cool J.

Q: What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next 5 to 10 years?

BTG: In 5 10 years, I wanna build a team of overlooked artists and start a label focused around them.

Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

BTG: It’s hard to describe the type of music I do because of my writing style. I listen to a beat constantly till it talks back to me. I can literally do/will literally do a song about anything for that reason.

Q: What is your creative process like?

BTG: I’m the type of person who lets the beat lead me to the song I’m writing. Might listen to a beat for a week straight before I write. It all just depends.

Q: Take us on a journey back to the first song you have ever written. How was that experience? 

BTG: The first song I have ever written was more just a really long verse. Back when smack DVD was still the thing so it was more of a hard-core ruthless type of verse just to make people react to it.

BTG: Like I said before this album was supposed to be a group before my friend, who went by double,  passed away.  This was supposed to be our first single so I made sure to keep that idea the same. Just took forever to write verses for everything he was gonna do. Just wanted to have an old-school hip-hop feel. We wanted to be a Redman and Method Man, EPMD, nice and smooth kind of duo. I can say this is more of a remembrance album than a debut solo album

Q: What challenges have you encounter since being a music artist and how have you overcome them?

BTG: Double passing has currently been one of my biggest challenges in music so far because I never wanted to be a solo artist. Hell, I still don’t.

BTG: The best advice I ever got was do you, someday someone will hear you eventually and you’ll be on your way.

BTG: What’s next is to see how far I can take this project and find out what else I can adventure into.
