As a lifelong lyricist Ego 0ffs music is rooted in all things black. Ego 0ffs DMV roots mixed with his New Jersey Ego’s style is a unique blend of spoken word, golden era lyricism, and real-life perspective. After listening to his latest single and EP, I can best describe Ego 0ffs as unique. authentic, and energetic. His flow is out of the world and his mind moves as quick as the pen. Check out our exclusive Q & A down below.
Q: Can you tell us about your latest project and talk about the inspiration and meaning behind it?
Ego 0ffs: The definition of a Fail-Safe mechanism is a feature that protects from a possible source of failure. This project is a look inside a heart with little to no options left. Fail-Safe is more attitude than an album, a feeling of relentlessness and determination.
Q: Think about someone or something that may have inspired you to make music. Who was or what was it?
Ego 0ffs: With the title of the 1st album being Love and Politrix (also available on iTunes) social injustice and racism continue to be a driving force and inspiration in my music.
Q: What accomplishments do you see yourself achieving in the next 5 to 10 years?
Ego 0ffs: TOURING, spreading the music as far and wide as possible. Accomplishments come after work.
Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create?
Ego 0ffs: Nostalgic and relentless. You’ll most likely hear one of these songs in a fast and furious movie someday lol.
Q: What is your creative process like?
Ego 0ffs: Live it, interpret it, and write it, all over a good drink and a ‘J’
Q: Take us on a journey back to the first song you have ever written. How was that experience?
Ego 0ffs: The 1st song I ever wrote was called “alive”. After a near-death experience in a car accident, I had an increased appreciation for being above and healthy. It was my answer to a call for purpose.
Q: Tell us about the new single?
Ego 0ffs: “Cuzn of Death” is an ode to persistence and dedication. For those who have realized the importance of never giving up.
Q: What challenges have you encounter since being a music artist and how have you overcome them?
Ego 0ffs: The entire industry portion of the music is a challenge lol. Finding and hitting your market, but consistency is key. Find those listeners who like it and love it, vibe with you, no one else matters.
Q: Which qualities do you think to make a great musician?
Ego 0ffs: Communication, observation, translation, empathy, ironically all the things that it takes to be a good human lol
Q: Describe your favorite and least favorite part about being a musician.
Ego 0ffs: Music is subjective, people will hate it for ridiculous reasons and love it for the same ridiculous reasons.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Ego 0ffs: Never give up and be willing to evolve.
Q: What’s next for you?
Ego 0ffs: The EP dropping, I am featured on a producer’s album that will drop next month and We’ll see when outside officially opens back up but hopefully it’s touring and promoting this album.
