The DMV Daily had the pleasure of speaking with fellow Maryland Artist StraffaBoy, who is named after a notorious neighborhood, straffawoods, that was shut down back in 2004 due to high drug trafficking and violence.
StraffaBoy has been rapping since 2009 after moving to Washington, D.C.  where his roommate owned a record label and the grind started from there. As he began to host the most popular open mics in the city, his name and brand got bigger. Since then StraffaBoy was able to quickly hit mainstream radio station, WKYS 93.9, which followed up with weekly paid events. It wasn’t long before the entire area knew who he was especially with features from some of the hottest artists in the area such as No Savage, Too Easy Black, and Ant Glizzy. Check out our exclusive Q&A down below.

Q: Tell us about your recent release.

StraffaBoy: My most recent release was a single off my new EP called “Perfect Timing” the single called “Better Days” feat Ant Glizzy

Q: Who inspired you to make music?

StraffaBoy: My roommate and long time friend Dutch501

Q: How would you describe the music that you typically create?

StraffaBoy: If I like the beat it will talk to me, and a hook will pop up in my head then I just go from there. I could write and freestyle

Q:  What is your creative process like?

StraffaBoy:  I would like to mostly collab with anybody ready to do business

Q: Who would you most like to collaborate with?

StraffaBoy: I would like to mostly collab with anybody ready to do business

Q: What is one message you would give to your fans?’

StraffaBoy: the message would be .. be your own king.. don’t follow the trend .. set standards and stay 100, also never give up.

Q: What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

StraffaBoy: If it wasn’t for music I might still have my gogo band lol

Q: Where have you performed?

StraffaBoy: I have performed at mostly all the spots in dc and a couple of spots in Maryland, and Atlanta

Q: How would you say Social Media has impacted your music career?

StraffaBoy: Social media has allowed me to keep the content flowing and develop my brand.

Q: Which famous musician(s) do you admire?

StraffaBoy:  When it comes to admiring that’s a strong word but I would say my Uncle Pepe. He is the former manager of the Legend “Prince”

Q: What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

StraffaBoy: Most trouble I got into would be a shootout, but legally you might see some traffic stops lol

Q: What is the best advice you’ve been given?

StraffaBoy: The best advice I received came from my child’s mother and that was to stay alive for our son.

Q: If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

StraffaBoy: If I had to change or could change anything about the industry I would make it more authentic.

Q: What’s next for you?

StraffaBoy: Ummm movies or just evolving.
