Young Crazy
If you’re from Virginia or the DMV there’s a high probability you already know who Young Crazy is but for those who don’t let me explain a little. One of the hottest new VA artists, Young Crazy is a Norfolk rapper signed to D1 Entertainment a company that includes WillThaRapper, Bandhunta Izzy, and Tate Kobang. Over the past few years, Young Crazy has been consistently headlining shows and opening up for major artists. With steady projects and big songs like “Lessons”, “Fix Yo Face”, and “Rocket” Young Crazy has built up a noticeable buzz and devoted fanbase. Earlier this year, Young Crazy dropped his highly anticipated project “CRAZO DAMN!” and it definitely delivered with strong solo tracks and guest appearances from Lud Foe, Bandhunta Izzy, 3oh Black, and 21 Savage. 2018 has been treating Young Crazy pretty good so far.

Juneil: How was it growing up in Norfolk? How did your experiences and environment play a part in who you are?
Young Crazy: Norfolk was lit growing up to me I grew up during the hang at the mall/movies on the weekend era when everybody repped some kind of gang so it was a lot of fights and sh*t like that. In my neighborhood I saw a lot of shootings, crackheads, ni**as die, robberies, all that wild sh*t so it prepared me for the bad in life early and how to maneuver.
Juneil Goode: Where did the name “Young Crazy” come from? How did you get it and who gave it to you?
Young Crazy: Young Crazy is a name me and a group of my bros in high school had we called each other. it was YCN Young Crazy N**gas and when I started rapping I was the only one so I ran with that name.
Juneil: What inspired you to start taking rap seriously?
Young Crazy: I always knew how but when I met Swagga 5 at NSU, he had a studio in his dorm room so I was just fu**in round with that n*gga making songs every day, then us just being the people that we are, we started maneuvering thru the college concerts and performing and getting hella love so I was like f*ck it Ima do it for real.
Juneil: You worked with Pusha T and in one of your interviews you mentioned recording at Timbaland’s studio, Who are some cool rappers, producers and industry people you’ve met?
Young Crazy: R.I.P. Bankroll Fresh he the most important one to me because we ended up being really close and I looked at him like a big bro for real. I met Diddy, Tink, 21 Savage, Lud Foe, and so many more plus a lot of major producers. They all showed me the same love and respect back nobody was on some phony a*s S*it.
Juneil: What are the biggest differences between VA and the DMV?
Young Crazy: I feel like my part of Virginia is what keeps Virginia alive. I love Richmond that’s my second home but northern VA that’s like foreign to me. They’re more like D.C.and Maryland people and the DMV culture they talk different, dress different, live a lil different but I f*ck wit people from all of them so its all love with me.
Juneil: You’ve been making music for a while now since at least 2013, what are some things about the music industry that you wish you knew earlier on in your career?
Young Crazy: I wish I would have stopped releasing a lot of my songs and just focused on running up my money first. Because I feel like some of my hottest songs was released too early and if I could wait til I had the right backing they would have been bigger songs.
Juneil: How do you feel when you listen to your old music?
Young Crazy: Some of that old s*it I still f*ck with I be sounding young as hell and like I wasn’t all the way confident but the words I was saying was always lit to me. I don’t really just be riding around listening to that s*it though.
Juneil: What’s some general advice you would give to your younger self?
Young Crazy: Stay away from all the dumb s*it, stop proving yourself to a world that’s never gonna give you the proper respect, get all the money and get more, and wear condoms.
Juneil: Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
Young Crazy: I don’t even know where I see myself in 5 days but I probably will be well taken care of, steady thinking of new ways to succeed, and still love making music.
Juneil: What’s something you’ve always wanted to try but have been too scared to do?
Young Crazy: I don’t really wanna try something I haven’t done yet, and everything I haven’t done that I wanna do, I’m not scared to do it.
Juneil: What’s one accomplishment you’re most proud of?
Young Crazy: Performing at my hometown college homecomings and the college I dropped out of I got to go back and rock their stage. That was really motivating.
Juneil: What’s the best interaction you’ve had with a fan?
Young Crazy: Well besides girls, at my daughter’s birthday party at the waterpark, little kids got their parents to take pictures with me and my daughter was grabbing on me like “That’s my daddy” that was cool.
