Living in New York now, you run into stars from the city every day. The big apple is one of the main epicenters of stardom, which draws potential icons from all over the world. The latest one who I ran into was a particular star from Atlanta. 1017 Eskimo standout Yung Mal showcases confidence, character, and charisma, which makes him one of the top upcoming stars of Atlanta. Especially with the release of mixtape “6 Rings,” which has earned significant acclaim.
With brash and bold standout trap anthems such as “Blake Griffin,” “Bachelor,” and “100 Missed Calls,” Mal handles the spotlight with much humility and honesty. He never makes the attention entirely about him, a side of his personality proven when he spoke to me about his relationship with his brother, fellow emcee Lil Quill.
“Me and Quill real big on brotherhood, a lot of people don’t look after one another, so we do our best to be the role models who do since we have a platform,” he said. “Brotherhood and loyalty are about picking up your colleague when they’re down and strengthening them to put them into a better position.”
Working in unison and conjunction with every artist and producer who Mal graced with his brilliance in the room, his take on empowering his fellow men allow him to make excellent music. The latest example was collaborating with Pyrex Whippa, an ascending super producer, on 6 Rings.
“Pyrex, that’s my boy! After our first single Toothpaste, we just linked again and caught a vibe,” Mal told me with much excitement. “Then we locked in and knocked out the tape within three to four days. I had the tape in my catalog ready to release since last year.”
That statement right their from him was intriguing. In the era of digital streaming, artists tend to drop new music rapidly so that their brands maintain relevance such as Lil Baby, NBA Youngboy, drake, and more have made sure that their fans have an abundance of their sounds. However, Mal joins musicians such as Roddy Ricch and Kendrick Lamar as artists whose quality of music allows them to maintain relevance in pop culture with over saturating the market. That level of curating music strategically and thoroughly showcases Yung Mal’s level of patience and trust within his team.
“As a rapper, I treat this as a job,” he stated. “Sometimes, naturally, I might get in my feelings or get a little impatient, but then I realize I’m in my zone. That zone requires me just to lock in and makes the music my fans and potential news one to fall in love with. Making music and being strategic in dropping it is a beautiful journey that might get overlooked.”
His wise mind at a young age and love for being a recording artist separates Yung Mal from a majority of the competition as a budding superstar in hip hop. Mal’s latest project 6 Rings is the love letter for music critics and fans around the world. Yung Mal time is now, and it shall last for many years.
Thank you to all my fans and the new fans I’m gaining every day. With each new day, people come up to me and say ‘my friends put me on to you, you’re great!’ It makes me grateful for what I have and hungry to achieve more! – Yung Mal On Love For his fans and new found success.
