Washington Mystics Star Forward Elena Delle Donne to Return After Missing Two-Years
Washington Mystics finally get their star player back after two years
Two-time WNBA MVP Elena Delle Donne is probable to return to the court after missing two years. The star forward will play Sunday against the Seattle Storm.
Delle Donne has not played since she underwent back surgery for a herniated disc following the 2019 season in which the Washington Mystics won their first-ever WNBA championship. She was expected to be ready to go for the 2020 season, but when the pandemic started Delle Donne opted out of the bubble because of health concerns.
Delle Donne started preparing for this season but she reaggravated her back injury and proceeded to get a second surgery which occurred in January of this year.
Earlier this month Delle Donne said this about her two-year journey:
“It’s been mentally incredible just to be back with my teammates and competing again. It has been quite a long road. And I don’t think you realize how much you miss it until you’re actually back in it. And then it’s like, ‘My goodness!’ It’s just been so refreshing.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been on the court, and I’m not able to get as many reps as I’d love to. But I know I can’t beat myself up. But I know when I can be back, I can impact this team in a positive way.”
