Wizards John Wall Says He Won’t Play Rest of NBA Season
John Wall won't be returning to the floor.
Washington Wizards All-Star point guard John Wall said he wouldn’t play in the upcoming NBA’s restart season. Wall expressed this to former NBA player/Wizard Caron Butler on his “The Tuff Juice,” Podcast.
The guard had this to say:
“For me, if I was playing, I wouldn’t want to go to it, to be honest. I just don’t feel like it’s safe. I just don’t feel like it is. I understand why they want to do it and what they’re trying to get to, but I wouldn’t want to.”
“If I was healthy enough to play, I wouldn’t want to go play. What am I going, just to play eight games? I’m not going for just eight games and then coming back home.”
“Kyrie has his things where he be in his own world… ‘The Earth is flat. But to be honest, I think he has a point. A lot of people feel that way. I think that’s why they tried to get on that call to see how many people really want to go play and how many people don’t want to play. Because with all this ‘Black Lives Matter’ going on and protesting and trying to get justice and all that; a lot of people feel like it’s not safe to go there. That’s what he stands on.”
– John Wall
Wall agreed with fellow NBA player Kyrie Irving on not playing. Even if he was healthy enough he still wouldn’t go as he doesn’t see it is safe. The nine-year veteran is still recovering from a ruptured Achilles Tendon and planned to miss the full season.
The season is set to resume July 31 in Orlando, Florida. 22-teams will go play seeding games. At the conclusion of those games, which is predicted to take 2-3 weeks, the top eight teams in each conference will advance to the NBA Playoffs. The Wizards are currently 24-40 and 5.5 games back of the Orlando Magic for the eighth seed.
They would have to get within four games of the Magic and win a double-elimination series to secure the eighth seed. For more information, the seeding just go here.
