Washington Mystics fans can worry a little less about the upcoming WNBA title defending season. 2019 MVP Elena Della Donne has been re-signed today. Per team policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Mystics General Manager and head coach Mike Thibault stated,

“Elena is the most impactful player in the history of the Washington Mystics and her commitment to us three years ago set the stage for us to make our championship run possible. I am thrilled that she has signed with us for four more years and will lead us as we continue to build on the culture of excellence that we have established here in D.C. This is an exciting time to be a Mystics fan and we look forward to defending our title!” – Mike Thibault

Last year Della Donne averaged 19.5 points, a career-high 8.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. She also became the first-ever WNBA player to join the rare 50/40/90 club. For those who are not familiar, that is when a player shoots 50% from the field, 40% from beyond the arch (3 pointers) and 90% or more from the free-throw line.

Next season will be her fourth with the Mystics and we can only assume a repeat of a WNBA title is the goal. Della Donne had this to say about coming back to D.C.:

“Last year bringing a Mystics championship home to D.C. was beyond special. The fans who supported us, and the closeness we had as a team, how hard we all worked together led to an incredible outcome. Ted and Sheila sowed the seeds for this. They have built an amazing organization, and they along with my teammates, Coach Thibault and his coaching staff, and everyone at the Mystics welcomed me and Amanda with open arms and made this our home. I’m thrilled to be returning for another four years and look forward to defending our title this season in front of the best fans in the world. All I have to say is let’s go ‘Stics!” – Elena Delle Donne
