4 months ago Hampton’s latest rising talent THRAXXX dropped off his new project Heartthrob. With a more alternative and irregular Hip-Hop sound, yet one that embraces the changes of today’s culture climate,  the project hosted 15 tracks featuring fellow rising Virginia talent.

Upon the release of track 5 pulled from the new release, THRAXXX caught up with the DMV Daily team for a conversion about his artistry and new music. Tune in below for the dialogue and keep it locked for more content coming from the Hampton native.

Talk about the origins of your name THRAXXX. With the quality of music you make, there’s surely a story behind it.

It was always a cool name to me. But this Lil B mixtape called “I’m THRAXXX” really like stamped it for me. That shit was hard. I just took it and ran with it. I’ve been going by THRAXXX since 09.

When did rapping and pursuing music come about for you?

I’ve always been into my whole life. I remember rapping lyrics over the phone to one of my friends in like 5th grade thinking I was the shit lol. But coming up freestylin with the guys was just something we did like everyday.  I started making beats in 2011. But not really taking it serious until like 3-4 years ago..

As an artist, talk about the way you approach your music and the contribution you feel you make towards the culture

Well I approach every song and project from a producers perspective. I started out making beats first then I started rapping. So the production is the most important thing to me. As far a making a contribution I feel like I’m an true artist I’m creatively behind everything I put out. Being innovative is the main thing to me.

How did your latest album Heartthrob come about?

Heartthrob was basically a compilation of some of my fave songs I did from 2015-2017. Plus I was going through some relationship problems at the time. It just fit my whole vibe at the time.

What about your highlight collaboration, “Cold” featuring fellow VA native, CORBB? How did that record come to life?

We did that record in 2016 we was just working that night. I think we did like 3 songs that night. I was really feeling cold hearted at that time. Still do fr..

How do you feel about the climate of the style of music you make coming from Hampton, VA?

I feel like the scene out here is diverse. It’s cool bc it lets everybody exist comfortably. It’s no genre that dominates this area. that’s the best thing about this area

What do you anticipate happening with your career for the remainder of 2018?

Content.. fly content, it’s all about keeping shxt fly fr. Me and Corbb got a project coming out called “SUPERFLY BROS” that’s coming this Summer, we really on some other shit rn w/this one. I plan on dropping two more projects this year. I’m ready to show the ppl my new sound. Everything I dropped have been old music so far, my old waves. I’m ready to show this new one.
