Authorities say an HIV-positive man has been charged for raping a young boy on the Appalachian Trail in western Maryland.

The Herald-Mail reported that 43-year-old Jason Henry Cochrane of Millersville has been charged with sex abuse of a minor, second-degree rape, and other counts in Washington County.

Earlier this week, a judge ordered that Cochrane be held without bond as he awaits his trail.

According to court documents, Maryland Natural Resources Police said that officers were called to the Pine Knob Shelter on the Appalachian Trail near the border with Frederick County.

On the scene, officers found Cochrane with a adolescent boy camping in a tent north of the shelter that contained condoms and sex toys.

DNA test confirmed sexual contact and that Cochrane gave the boy crystal meth, police say.
