NBA Legend Jerry West Passes Away At 86
Jerry West, a basketball icon renowned for his illustrious career as both a player and executive, passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 86, as announced by the LA Clippers. West’s legacy extends far beyond his achievements on the court, as his silhouette serves as the inspiration for the iconic NBA logo.
Throughout his remarkable career, West left an indelible mark on the sport. He became only the third player in NBA history to surpass 25,000 points, earning All-Star honors each year. Leading the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Finals an impressive nine times, West clinched a championship in the 1971-72 season.
Additionally, he garnered recognition as a 12-time All-NBA selection and was named NBA Finals MVP despite his team’s defeat in 1969. His contributions earned him a well-deserved place on the NBA’s 75th anniversary team, solidifying his status as one of basketball’s greatest legends.
