April + VISTA Bring Traditional Noise to DC for Songbyrd Performance

DMV duo April + VISTA brought their genre-bending sound to Songbyrd, celebrating the release of their acclaimed debut album, Traditional Noise.

Known for creating music that refuses to stay inside one box, April + VISTA blend influences that span from Radiohead and Hiatus Kaiyote to Tyler, The Creator and Gorillaz. At the center of it all is lead vocalist April, whose voice carries a timeless quality reminiscent of Billie Holiday while fitting naturally into the duo’s experimental sound.

Traditional Noise serves as a message to their younger selves, twisting familiar sounds and influences into something entirely new. The album draws from the duo’s formative inspirations, including alternative and experimental music, Satoshi Kon films, and survival-horror video games.

The result is a layered project that feels both nostalgic and unfamiliar. April + VISTA describe the album as an “amber-colored fossil“. Preserving stories about the people and memories that shaped them while capturing the world from their perspective.

That same philosophy carries into their live performances. Rather than simply recreating the music heard on the album, they used their shows to guide audiences into what they describe as the “comforts of the unknown.” Their performances create an immersive space where the familiar and unconventional can exist together.
