Popular DC Nightclub ‘The Park at 14th’ To Pay $243,350 For Workers’ Rights Violation

The Park at 14th, a popular Washington, D.C., restaurant, nightclub and event venue, will pay $243,350 to settle a workers’ rights investigation by the D.C. Attorney General’s Office.

The settlement provides more than $127,000 in back wages and benefits to over 270 current and former employees. Investigators found the business failed to provide paid sick leave to more than 200 workers, improperly classified some employees as independent contractors, retaliated against workers who raised concerns about their pay, and failed to provide required wage notices.

As part of the agreement, The Park at 14th must also restore retroactive paid sick leave for eligible current employees. Attorney General Brian Schwalb said the settlement returns money to workers while reinforcing that employers must comply with the District’s labor laws.

“Today, we’re putting money back in the pockets of hundreds of workers who were denied the compensation and benefits they were legally entitled to,” Schwalb said in a statement.
