The Lakers Superstar Thought Magic Johnson Leaving Was A Joke

LeBron James always is in the know with his team. From with what goes on with recruiting, coaching schemes, running practices and etc you can only expect him to not be out of the loop.

On his HBO show with longtime friend and businessman Maverick Carter, ‘The Shop’ James is seen sitting with teammate Lonzo Ball, Travis Scott and more. They were discussing how he came to find out Magic Johnson stepped down from his position as president of basketball operations for the Lakers.

James said he found out from his right-hand man and was first taken aback by the wild claim. He then realized he was being serious and said there were about 70 minutes before the tipoff of the game. James didn’t participate that night but still showed some disappointment in Johnson making that sudden decision to the press.

He had met previously with Johnson and did not get the impression that he was going to leave.

“No one had no idea. We were like, ‘Damn, like right now?’ It was literally 70 minutes on the clock before (the game). I’m not playing, but my team is still playing, and you kind of decide to do that right here, right now. I feel like there’s a time and place for things, and I believe that you knew that you were going to make that decision, so why would you do it here and why would you do it now?”
