The Running Back Looks To Redeem Himself Second  With The Browns

Former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt has signed a one-year contract with the Cleveland Browns. ESPN’s Adam Schefter says a source reported this to him. Hunt will be a restricted free agent after the contract and his rights will be controlled by the Browns.

Hunt was released by the Chiefs in November. A video surfaced of him shoving and kicking a woman from last February at his residence in Cleveland. Hunt was not arrested or charged in the incident.

Shortly after the release, Hunt got placed on the NFL’s commissioner exempt list. He will stay on the list as the NFL continues to work on a final decision for his discipline.

General manager John Dorsey had this to say about the running back:

“I want everybody to know we have done extensive research in regards to this case, this player. He understands and takes full responsibility for the egregious act he committed. He is extremely remorseful for his actions.”

He added that Hunt’s signing is “by no means … a guarantee of anything. As we all know, trust has to be earned. That has to be earned with the Cleveland Browns organization and the community of Cleveland moving forward. This will be a day-to-day thing with earning trust.” – John Dorsey

Hunt’s Connections to Browns

The current Browns general manager of John Dorsey has connections to the running back. Dorsey drafted Hunt to the Chiefs in 2017 when he was the Chiefs general manager.

Dorsey expects the NFL to wrap up their investigation in the next couple weeks.

At only 23-year-old Hunt has not reached his prime and is still a young running back with a great promise. In his rookie season, he led the NFL with 1,327 rushing yards and had 8 touchdowns. He caught 53 receptions for 455 yards and earned 3 receiving touchdowns.

For the 2018 season, he rushed for 824 yards and had 7 touchdowns, while also catching 7 touchdowns in 11 games. The Chiefs still went on to finish the season strong and lost to the Super Bowl Champion Patriots.

Kareem Hunt’s Apology

Time will tell if Hunt is reinstated into the league. Even if he is, expect his return to bring controversy to the Browns and distractions from the media. A lot of people are unhappy about this signing and have voiced their opinion.

Hunt’s apology below:

“First off, I would like to once again apologize for my actions last year. What I did was wrong and inexcusable. That is not the man I was raised to be, and I’ve learned a great deal from that experience and certainly should have been more truthful about it after the fact. I’m extremely grateful that John Dorsey, Dee, and Jimmy Haslam and the Cleveland Browns organization are granting me the opportunity to earn their trust and represent their organization in the best way possible on and off the field.

“I am committed to following the necessary steps to learn and to be a better and healthier person from this situation. I also understand the expectations that the Browns have clearly laid out and that I have to earn my way back to the NFL. I’m a work in progress as a person, but I’m committed to taking advantage of the support systems that I have in place to become the best and healthier version of myself.”
