Background Overview
Jonathan Hildred Wall Jr. was born on September 6, 1990 in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the middle child of three born to Frances Pulley and John Wall Sr. At the age 8, he lost his father to liver cancer, which affected him tremendously. This lead to him having anger and behavioral problems that almost deflected his career. When John turned 12, joined a AAU basketball program ran by the Clifton Brothers (Dwon and Brian Clifton).
Between the years of 2008-2009, he averaged 19.7 pts for the Rams and managed to ger triple-doubles on a consistent basis. Wall lead his team to the state 1-A championship. He had choices of attending Duke or University of North Carolina but dedicated to attended University of Kentucky after former Memphis coach John Calpari moved to Lexington.
After playing one year college basketball for the University of Kentucky Wildcats, he was chose the first overall pick of the 2010 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards. He plays the point guard position and is a five-time NBA All-Star. In 2017, Wall was named to his first All-NBA Team.
