Good Vibes From Drizzy Drake On Scorpion

scorpion

Hip hop superstar Drake recently dropped heavily anticipated album Scorpion and it gives my mixed feelings. Overall, it’s a good but inconsistent project. A double album with two sides, one for straight rap and the other for R&B.  Both sides had some pretty dope track but also some tracks that felt like filler for Drake to gain streaming numbers.  Radio hits like Nice For What, I’m Upset, and God’s Plan were left on so that the album can achieve platinum quickly but it takes away from the overall flow of the album. I shouldn’t have to skip songs on my first couple of play through(s) of the album. Also, Some tracks that were on side A should have been on side b and visa versa. Some of the samples used such as the Michael Jackson sample was not very good but the Plies one was wonderful so some balance is present. The project felt way too long for it’s own good. At times, the album lulled me to sleep but overall it’s not a bad project so I’ll get into the pros of the project.

P.S. Don’t murder my Drake Stans and Aubrey Angels, I’m a Drake fan myself. I’m just doing my job. I’m unbiased.

I am happy to announce that this is Drake’s best album since Nothing Was The Same and for the first time in awhile I heard a hungry Drake on a record. The past couple of projects Views and More Life, he experimented with different sounds and it gave me different feelings. This album I will say he sticks to hat makes him a great musician. Jay Z, and Ty Dolla $ign, help out Drake with great features along with great vocals from Static Major (Rest in peace). Tracks 7 – 12 side A reminded everybody why Drake is a top tier emcee today. Side B overall gives off a mixture of early 2000 vibes with a modern Bryson Tiller feel. It was very enjoyable. While this album is not a classic, it’s still very enjoyable to listen to. P.S. production by 40 as wonderful!

Final Verdict 8.5/10

Pros: Great features, some hits, old Drake sound form track 7-12 on side A, Side B is a vibe,  40s production

Cons: Filler Tracks, very inconsistent,  can be a tad bit boring at times, Rachet Happy Birthday Sounds like Cheap Wine and Crackers

Favorite Tracks: Talk Up, After Dark, 8 out of 10, March 14, Final Fantasy
