At a senior living facility in Prince George’s County, an explosion and a two-alarm fire cause evacuations
A two-alarm fire broke out in the kitchen section of a senior living home in Prince George’s County early Tuesday morning, forcing over 100 people to escape.
The fire was reported around 4 a.m. at the Larkin Chase Center in the 15000 block of Health Center Drive in the Bowie neighborhood, according to FOX 5’s Maureen Umeh.
According to Umeh, fire officials confirmed the explosion, which was felt miles away. The kitchen area was severely damaged, according to images from the scene. As emergency crews reacted, bricks and building materials were observed scattering across the ground.
According to Pete Piringer, a spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, 112 residents will be moved as a result of the fire. Piringer recommends that moved residents convene at the Bowie Senior Center, 14900 Health Center Drive.

One individual was first believed to have been transferred for assessment, but officials now say no one was hospitalized.
The explosion’s cause is being investigated.
The Bowie Senior Center, Health Center Drive, and the Bowie Gymnasium are all closed until further notice.
