Like many celebrities, Ellen DeGeneres appeared on an episode of David Letterman’s Netflix show, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction”which aired on Friday, where she talks about the sexual abuse she endured from her late Stepfather during her teenage years. During the Interview, she explained how it began with convincing her that he needed to touch her breasts, while her mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer and out of town.
“He told me when my mom was out of town that he’d felt a lump in her breast and needed to feel my breasts” She also mentioned how although it took her awhile to tell her mother because she wanted to protect her, her mother remained married to him 18 years after she told her he was assaulting her daughter. She later left after noticing he had been changing the story too many times.
Betty DeGeneres, the mother of Ellen, released a statement to NBC. “I know now that one of the hardest things to do is speak up after being sexually abused and I wish I had the capacity to listen to her when she told me what happen,” she said. ” I live with regret and I wouldn’t want that for any other parent; If someone in your life has the courage to speak out, please believe them.”
Ellen hopes her courage passes on to other victims and help the ones who feels like they have to suffer in peace.
