Fresh off a amazing performance at the BET Awards, H.E.R. and YBN Cordae are back with a new collaboration titled Racks. The R&B musician sings about the dangers of lusting over materialistic things while Cordae delivers a powerful verse alluding to finding happiness from within instead of in possessions. Rack has a premise of finding true joy within the person’s instead of through items. H.E.R showcases are love of shopping and struggling with never being satisfied as example of how materialistic things can cloud a person’s judgement. Cordae’s verse comes in around 2:30 and it goes as smoothly as Kawhi Leonard during a game winning shot. 

The “ratchet sh*t” he elaborates in his verse is a metaphor for the darkness he overcame to find happiness within his soul. It’s a common human struggle to allow things to impede your happiness, and Cordae does a great job to make it relate able. The song title is a clever ploy to hide the actual meaning of the song, and it shows the creative genius of H.E.R and YBN Cordae. A mid tempo beats blends in seamlessly with the two usually slow paced artists quite nicely, Both artists are building serious momentum for their careers as H.E.R won a Grammy last year and Cordae was recently on this years XXL 2019 Freshmen cover with a album titled The Lost Boy dropping, it’s safe to say Racks just adds to it. It’s a must listen!
