Its June foodies! That means its officially Caribbean-American Heritage Month! To celebrate, we will be highlighting some of the best Caribbean restaurants to visit in the DMV this week.

The History

In 2006, President George W. Bush declared June as the National Caribbean-American Heritage month to acknowledge their contributions to the United States throughout history. Caribbean-American immigrants and residents of the U.S territories are a vital part of American culture. Their traditions, foods, music, innovations, skills, and style have influenced and enriched many aspects of our country. As of 2016, about 4% of the U.S. population have Caribbean ancestry.

Andrene’s Caribbean Soul Food Cafe has the DMV raving about its authentic Jamaican cuisine. Many have sung the praises of their flavorful oxtails and spicy jerk wingettes! Andrene’s stands out from the rest because they have also incorporated the soul food of the south alongside their Caribbean dishes! Slabs of ribs, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and cornbread are all available at Andrene’s Cafe.
