A 23-year-old man was fatally shot by police Monday evening in Columbia, Maryland, after allegedly stabbing his 26-year-old brother multiple times during a domestic dispute.
Howard County police say the older brother called 911 from a home on Wilbur Court to report the stabbing. Minutes later, the younger brother also called 911, admitting to the attack. Officers later found the 23-year-old armed with a large double-edged spear on Oakland Mills Road. Witnesses reported seeing him advance toward officers with the weapon. After he failed to comply with commands, an officer shot and killed him. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the spear was recovered. The 26-year-old victim remains in critical condition at a hospital. No officers were injured. The motive for the stabbing remains under investigation. The Independent Investigations Division is reviewing the police shooting.
“Domestic situations are some of the toughest because they’re so difficult to prevent,” said police spokesperson Sherry Llewellyn. “Sadly, in this case, lives were lost and forever changed.”
