Kirk Cousins Plans To Sign With Minnesota Vikings

Kirk Cousins Plans To Sign With Minnesota Vikings
  • PublishedMarch 13, 2018

Former Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins has received an offer to play with the Minnesota Vikings and plans to sign with the team, according to reports.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports the offer is a 3-year deal worth $28 million per season, fully guaranteed. The deal would make Cousins one of the highest paid players in NFL history.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Cousins plans to sign the deal on Thursday.

The quarterback spent six seasons with Washington after the team drafted him out of Michigan State in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Cousins started 57 games for Washington, compiling a 26-30-1 record. He helped lead the team to the playoffs in 2015, winning the NFC Wild Card against the Green Bay Packers before falling to the Arizona Cardinals in the divisional playoff series.

His tenure with the team was effectively ended when Washington declined to use the franchise tag on him and acquired quarterback Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Cousins wrote a farewell to the organization and fans on Monday. His post originally tagged the Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets, but the tags were later removed.

The Vikings are considered playoff contenders after finishing the 2017 season with a 13-3 record and falling short of a Super Bowl run after being defeated in the NFC Championship game by the Philadelphia Eagles. Quarterback Case Keenum, who lead the Vikings after starter Sam Bradford went down due to an injury, has reportedly agreed to sign with the Denver Broncos.
