Who inspired you to make music?

AL3KAT – Wale . Being the first to come out of the area to make it on that level of mainstream success was a big a thing, I’ll always give him his just due for being an inspiration to me and the artist that came after, least the ones willing to admit he contributed influence wise.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

AL3KAT – Totally the opposite of what’s on surface level, I’d say I’m the embodiment of the lounge & hookah scene we got here when it comes to the music. Simply because it’s not typically what everyone else is making if at all in general.

What is your creative process like?

AL3KAT – Get a beat. brainstorm (maybe a day, or 2 weeks). come back to it. finish it (if not the whole thing a line or 2).  Think it over. Record it. Listen to the bounce versions. if not satisfied comeback for another session. Here the bounce version again. play it for a few close friends. Get it mixed. the end.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

AL3KAT – I recall having a lengthy answer last time, well this time I’m a little bit more aware of certain things so I’d say anyone willing to create I’m down. The people who know I’ve personally reached out to them already so be expecting something soon from me and others.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

AL3KAT – My message would be “We only got one life, make it memorable, though we don’t know exactly when or the moment our last will be; be as impactful as possible”

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

AL3KAT – Driving for someone’s company. Other then making music driving is about one of the only things that make me truly happy and makes me relax at least for a little while.

Where have you performed?

AL3KAT – Ust (Tropicalia, Velvet Lounge), Georgia Ave Listen Visionz (Howard Homecoming Weekend) Purple Lounge (Arlington, VA),

How would you say Social Media has impacted your music career?

AL3KAT – It’s made me a bit more conscious of what I say and put out into the public, I’m very private with my real feelings so I show people what I want them to see keeping certain things to a minimum.

Which famous musician(s) do you admire?

AL3KAT – 2pac for how open and transparent he was. Bob Marley  for teaching us that materialistic possessions don’t mean anything. Michael Jackson for being able to create music for 7 decades and still be playable. Jay – Z for showing us how to rebrand yourself and stay current through the times. Erykah Badu for being in the forefront of Neo Soul a genre that had elements of hip hop but also possessed r&B qualities from past times.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

AL3KAT – Ha. I won’t disclose that.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

AL3KAT – “You gotta let people know your in this world” – Uncle Beeve (RIP)

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

AL3KAT – I’d say the brainwashing of every artist having to have a “trap” image to be “cool or in”. It’s one thing for people to actually live that lifestyle because that’s all they know but for that to be the image that you think your creativity has to be wrapped around then no my good sir try again and look in the mirror.

What’s next for you?
AL3KAT – Being the first to create a new wave of rap here in the DMV … the new genre name is still loading, but next time you ask me that question I’ll have the answer.
