A man has been found guilty of first-degree murder for stabbing Desmond Thomas during a fight last year.

Thomas, the son of a Prince George’s County Police detective, was killed on October 27, 2023, when Kenneth Smith drove to Old Fort Hills Park in Fort Washington to find his daughter and got into an argument with Thomas.

During the fight, Smith stabbed Thomas, and Smith’s stepson, Lamont Scott, allegedly shot him. Scott, also charged with murder, is scheduled for trial on June 18.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy, joined by Thomas’s family, discussed Smith’s conviction at a press conference on Tuesday.
