Offense Finally Progressing As No. 5 Virginia Lacrosse Beats No. 13 Richmond 18-10

Virginia’s Lacrosse offense started out very slow, but with this team, it’s not how you start but rather how you finish, according to The Richmond Times Dispatch.

Freshman Connor Shellenberger successfully scored four goals with three assists, while senior Matt Moore added three goals and three assists, as UVA beat Richmond 18-10, its third-highest goal output of the season.

Matt Moore spoke on behalf of the team saying:

“It was a tough pill to swallow for a lot of us, just analyzing the film the past couple of games. We knew there was something off. We didn’t know what it was. We were all asking each other, ‘Why aren’t we clicking?'”

Saturday, against one of the nation’s stingier defenses, UVA finally clicked. The team assisted on 11 of its 18 goals and took 47 shots, 28 of them were on goal.

UVA coach Lars Tiffany was very concerned about his team’s offensive sharpness for much of the last month, as the Cavaliers had plenty of shots but relatively few goals. Virginia, however, displayed better signs of execution in its win to Notre Dame last weekend, scoring 12 goals on 30 shots.

Virginia won its third straight heading into next weekend’s road game at No. 2 North Carolina.
