To curb youth crime, Prince George’s County, Maryland, council members approved a resolution on Wednesday to establish juvenile curfew zones. The legislation, “An Act Concerning Juvenile and Minor Curfew Zones,” allows commercial property owners to request the police chief to create curfew zones within the county.

The proposed area must be primarily commercial and have support from at least one county council member from the district where the curfew zone would be enforced. Additionally, at least two-thirds of the property owners in the proposed zone must approve.

This measure follows an incident in April at National Harbor, where hundreds of minors were involved in fighting and vandalism before dispersing when police arrived.
