After 47 years of Oscar Robertson being the NBA’s career triple-double leader, he has finally been dethroned as Russell Westbrook recorded his 182nd career triple-double in a Monday night matchup against the Atlanta Hawks. He finished the game with 28 points, 21 assists, and 13 rebounds but the Wizards were unable to win the game losing 125-124.
This was also Westbrook’s 36th triple-double this season. That makes this the third time he has recorded at least 30 triple-doubles in a single season.
Russell Westbrook is averaging career highs in rebounds (11.6) and assists (11.6). In addition to setting the Washington Wizards franchise record for triple-doubles in a single season and career, he has also set the record for the highest assist average in a single season. He will finish the season averaging a triple-double making this the fourth time he has done so in his career.
No other active player in the NBA today has more than 100 career triple-doubles with the closest being LeBron James who has 99 triple-doubles so far.
Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards are currently locked in a playoff race with this loss dropping their record to 32-37. With the Indiana Pacers’ win against the Cleveland Cavaliers, they now drop to the 10th spot holding a narrow lead over the Chicago Bulls for the final play-in game spot.
