School Resource Officers May Return to Montgomery County

School Resource Officers May Return to Montgomery County
  • PublishedMarch 31, 2022

For the first time in 19 years, according to FOX 5’s Melanie Alnwick, schools returned to in-person learning this fall, with no school resource officers.

Instead, clusters of community involvement officers were formed. However, if police aid was required, school administrators were instructed to dial 911.

During the first four months of the school year, Montgomery County Public Schools received nearly 1,700 calls to the emergency communications center.

Many parents and school administrators demanded the reinstatement of officers after a shooting at Magruder High School in January.

Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight, according to Alnwick, said a strategy would entail officers checking in daily at schools and an officer workstation at the school. The cops will not patrol the halls or deal with school discipline concerns, but they will be in charge of significant criminal acts.
