Five people are in police custody after a crime spree and pursuit that started in Virginia, spanned D.C., and ended in along the Maryland-D.C. border, according to authorities.

The victim exited his car during the robbery, and the three suspects tried to steal the car. Police say the car had become immobilized, preventing the suspects from taking it. The suspects then fled the scene on foot.

About 3 minutes after the first report, Arlington County Police received another report of a car that was stolen near North Vermont Street and North Tazewell Street.

At that scene, officers learned that two victims were sitting inside their car when three suspects approached and demanded they exit the car. The suspects then grabbed the automobile and departed the area.

Then, at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Arlington County Police said they were told that Virginia State Police were chasing the car along I-395 in Fairfax County. Arlington County Police eventually joined the chase, but authorities were unable to stop the automobile before it crossed the border into D.C.

The Metropolitan Police Department and the Prince George’s County Police Department also assisted with the pursuit. After the automobile crashed near Southern Ave SE and Pennsylvania Ave SE, MPD officers tracked it down and apprehended the suspects.

According to authorities, five people were apprehended in all, although no charges have yet been filed. The investigation will be handled by the Metropolitan Police Department, according to Prince George’s County Police.
