Virginia kennel owner charged after more than 20 hunting dogs were found dead
DINWIDDIE, Va. – Authorities arrested and charged a Virginia kennel owner with animal cruelty after more than 20 dead hunting dogs upon discovery.
On Friday, Dinwiddie County Animal Control received an anonymous tip and went to the property near U.S. Highway 1 where they found the dead dogs inside the kennel.
One dog was still alive and is expected to recover. The deceased dogs were taking to Lynchburg Regional Animal Health Laboratory for examination. The dogs discovered were Walker hounds, a breed commonly used for hunting.
According to Animal Control, Floyd McNeil Maitland, the owner of the dogs and kennel has been charged with two felony counts of animal cruelty. The agency reported that the investigation may lead to more charges.
