The Washington Nationals completed a three game sweep against the Miami Marlins with a 9-3 Sunday afternoon win. The win improves the Nationals record to 77-58 winning 16 of their last 19 games including four in a row. The Nationals currently have the second highest run differential (+123) in the National League and the fifth highest overall.

With the Nationals up 2-0 going into the fifth inning, the Marlins scored their only three runs of the game including a home run from second baseman Starlin Castro to give them a 3-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth. In the same inning, the Nationals scored a two-run home run from third baseman Anthony Rendon to take a 4-3 lead. Anthony recorded his 111th RBI of the season giving him the Nationals single-season record and set a career high for home runs in a season with his 32 in this game.

From there, the Nats would score five runs off of three home runs including two two-run home runs by first baseman Ryan Zimmerman and leftfielder Juan Soto respectively on their way to a 9-3 win.

The Nationals this season have three pitchers (Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg, and Patrick Corbin) who have pitched at least 200 strikeouts. This makes them the first National League team in 50 years to have three pitchers to pitch at least 200 strikeouts.

The Nationals are currently 4.5 games ahead of the Chicago Cubs for the first Wild Card spot in the National League and are 5.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves for the top spot in the NL East division. With less than a month left in the regular season the Nationals are in prime position to return to the postseason after missing out on the playoffs last season.

The Nationals will begin a three-game series on the road against the New York Mets starting Monday afternoon.
