Washington Nationals win in regular season finale

Washington Nationals win in regular season finale
  • PublishedSeptember 29, 2019

In the final game of the MLB regular season, the Washington Nationals get an 8-2 win over the Cleveland Indians. The Nationals finish the regular season with a 93-69 record and concluding the season on an eight game winning streak.

With the game tied 1-1 in the third inning, Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki hit a two-run home run to give the Nats a two run lead in the game. The Nats would create separation in the sixth inning scoring four runs to extend their lead to 7-1 on their way to victory.

In the Nats four previous postseason appearances, they were eliminated in the divisional round one game short of making it to the National League Championship series. In the Nationals’ franchise history, dating back to when they were the Montreal Expos, the only time they made it past the divisional round was in 1981 where they were eliminated in the National League Championship series.

The Nationals will look to begin their journey to their first World Series appearance this Tuesday when they will take on the Milwaukee Brewers in a win or go home Wild Card game at Nationals Park. The winner of that game will advance to the Divisional Round where they will face NL top-seed Los Angeles Dodgers.
