Barack and Michelle Obama Partner with Spotify to Produce Exclusive Podcasts
Barack and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, announced the beginning of a new partnership with Spotify to produce podcasts Thursday. The partnership is in addition to the company’s prior multi-year production deal with Netflix to produce TV shows and films.
According to Higher Ground, the Obamas will “develop, produce, and lend their voices to select podcasts, connecting them to listeners around the world on wide-ranging topics.”
The Obama-produced podcasts will be exclusive to the Spotify music streaming platform, with some of the first debuting in early 2020 according to Higher Ground.
The financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Higher Ground also did not provide any specific details about the content of the podcasts or whether or not they would be strictly political in nature.
“President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama are two of the world’s most important voices and it is a privilege to be working with them to identify and share stories that will inspire our global audience,” said Spotify Chief Content Officer Dawn Ostroff in a statement Thursday.
The Obamas formed Higher Ground in 2018 with their stated goal being to foster new, diverse voices in the entertainment industry.
