Dave Chappelle will attend the opening and dedication of the Dave Chappelle Theatre on Monday at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C.

The unveiling, a theatrical dedication, performances, and a talk with Chappelle are all part of the celebration, which runs from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Ellington’s Million Dollar Challenge, a campaign to help cover the financing gap and put art at the center of their dual curriculum, will be launched at the event.

Ellington is asking supporters to make individual contributions or pool money to assist fund the university’s eight art departments for the next year.

Chappelle, who graduated from Ellington Arts in 1991, is one of the most well-known alumni.

Ellington’s co-founder, Peggy Cooper Cafritz, believed in the arts’ power and that Chappelle would be able to bring funding and attention to the school.
