Former NFL Quarterback Tarvaris Jackson Dies in Car Accident

The 10-year veteran died in a car accident Sunday night in Alabama.

The 2006 Second Round Draft Pick Died Tragically Sunday Night

Former Alabama State and Minnesota Viking quarterback Tarvaris Jackson died in a car accident overnight in Alabama. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport first reported the tragic news which was confirmed by his employer Tennesse State.

Jackson was a Montgomery, Alabama native and played collegiate football at Alabama State. In 2006 he was the second-round pick for the Minnesota Vikings. Jackson became their starter in 2007 before being benched during the 2008 season. in 2011 Jackson signed with the Seattle Seahawks and started that season. The Seahawks traded him after the season to the Buffalo Bills where he didn’t get a chance to play.

Once again in 2013, Jackson came back to the Seahawks. He was their backup quarterback. His career lasted 10 years with his best season being in 2011. He threw 3,091 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2014 as their reserve quarterback behind Russell Wilson.

After retiring, Jackson went to Alabama State and became a quality control and quarterback coach. He left and went to Tennesse State’s coaching staff for the 2019 season.

Jackson leaves behind his wife Lakitta Jackson and three kids, Tarvaris, Takayla, and Tyson.
