Despite the victim’s recanted statement, Theresa Taylor, 43, accused of shooting at her pregnant teenage daughter, was denied bail on January 12. The incident unfolded when Taylor allegedly fired a handgun at her daughter and the temporary guardian during an altercation on the 400 block of Lyndhurst Street last April.

According to defense attorney James Sweeting III, the situation began when Taylor, upset about her daughter’s pregnancy, confronted them as they retrieved belongings. Charging documents state that Taylor, armed with a bat, threatened the victims, went inside, returned with a handgun, and fired at her daughter.

Taylor’s boyfriend and co-defendant, Anthony Mason, reportedly took the gun from Taylor, chased the victims, and fired more shots. On May 1, 2023, the altercation continued when Taylor, Mason, and others were reported outside the victim’s home on the 1000 block of Ellicott Driveway. The daughter told police she saw Taylor waving a handgun and pointing it at the house.

Despite the victim’s recantation, a prosecutor stated during the hearing that the daughter had initially identified her mother as the shooter. Given the seriousness of the allegations and Taylor’s alleged actions, Judge Geller denied bail.

Taylor faces charges, including two counts of attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, having a handgun, firearm use in a felony or violent crime, having a loaded handgun, having a handgun in a vehicle, discharging a firearm, and disorderly conduct. Her case is reassigned, and she is scheduled to appear in reception court on April 10.
