A 62-year-old man from Maryland, Dennis Bell, has been charged with multiple offenses, including kidnapping, assault, and leading the police on a dangerous pursuit that ended in a car crash. The incident took place on Friday morning.
According to Maryland State Police, Bell is currently being held in an Upper Marlboro jail, facing a total of 33 charges. The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was found by the police and is currently undergoing recovery in a local hospital. Disturbingly, she was discovered naked and reported sustaining injuries to her fingers from a pocket knife.
The Maryland State Police have determined that the kidnapping occurred on Minnesota Avenue in Southeast D.C. According to the victim’s statement to the police, she was coerced and compelled to comply with the perpetrator’s demands. Throughout the day, she remained unclothed on the floor of the U-Haul vehicle driven by the suspect.
Elena Russo, a spokesperson for Maryland State Police, stated, “The victim expressed her confusion as to why she was forced into the vehicle, and the suspect drove continuously throughout the day, making a few stops, but refusing to release her against her will.”
At approximately 9:45 p.m. on Friday, several drivers in the Lanham area observed a U-Haul truck driving recklessly and colliding with other vehicles, completely unaware of the presence of a woman inside the vehicle.
Law enforcement officers attempted to halt the U-Haul’s progress, which eventually resulted in the vehicle crashing into a ditch in a residential neighborhood in Lanham. It was during this encounter on Baltimore Lane and Elm Street in Lanham that State Police officers made the unexpected discovery that a woman was allegedly being held against her will inside the vehicle.
