Man found dead in submerged vehicle in Hampton

A man was found dead Friday morning in a submerged vehicle in Hampton. The Hampton Public Safety Dive Team identified 21-year-old Drew Halsey of Maryland as the deceased victim in the submerged vehicle.

Around 6:35 a.m., dispatchers received a report about an accident around North Armistead Avenue and Freeman Drive.

According to the police investigation, the vehicle crashed into a light pole before continuing into a nearby body of water. They did not say what caused the car to veer off the roadway.

It was reported in a news release that two people were in the vehicle, one safely made it to shore.
