The coyote that bit four individuals in Fairfax County over the weekend tested positive for rabies, according to authorities.

According to Fairfax County Police, the first attacks occurred Saturday at Lake Accotink Park in Springfield, Virginia, injuring three persons.

The bites caused non-life-threatening injuries to the victims, who were all adults. The police did not say whether they were treated for their injuries.

Then, on Sunday, police said a coyote bit one of their officers when they were combing the woods near the 7900 block of Carrleigh Parkway in Springfield.

According to police, the officer shot at the coyote, which was subsequently found dead nearby. The cop was brought to a hospital nearby for treatment.

The park was closed on Saturday and Sunday as a result of the incident.

Anyone who has been bitten or scratched by a coyote should contact the Fairfax County Health Department’s Rabies Program at 703-246-2433, ext. 711.
