Montgomery County officials are hosting a series of “Boosterama” clinics in order to get more COVID-19 booster shots into people’s arms.

On Saturday, Wheaton Mall hosted an event aimed at boosting people’s resistance against COVID-19. Booster clinics will be held at the mall every day from 3 to 6 p.m. and every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in addition to this weekend’s event.

According to health experts, the event is vital to help get people vaccinated against COVID-19 as the virus continues to mutate and the holiday travel season approaches. It provided them with the opportunity to receive the most recent bivalvent booster shot, which protects against both the original COVID-19 virus and the Omicron strain.

When it comes to people who have received the new booster, Montgomery County is performing somewhat better than the national average, according to health experts.

According to estimates, roughly 12% of Montgomery Area people have received the vaccine, putting the county somewhat ahead of the national average. Despite this, health professionals hope that more people aged 50 and up receive the vaccine.

They warn that, while the infection rate is now low, as it has been in previous years, it is expected to rise once people begin to gather for the holidays.

Dr. César Palacios, the executive director of Proyecto Salud Clinic stated;

“The virus has adapted to the new environment and we have new strains of the virus and new bivalent vaccine is going to protect us. It’s getting colder, we get inside we have little parties and it’s all good but the situation is that we need to be protected with the booster shots in these cases.”

Despite the ongoing pandemic, health authorities understand that the majority of the population is growing more comfortable, therefore they are hope that people would remain watchful.
