On Saturday the Cleveland Browns announced wide receiver Josh Gordon would be released. The Browns provided no details on why this decision came.
A source told ESPN’s Chris Morten that they believe the Browns would try to trade for Gordon before Monday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was told by a source that if a trade was made it would be a team outside of the AFC conference. He also reports the teams Gordon wants are the San Fransico 49ers or the Dallas Cowboys.

It has been no secret that Gordon has struggled most of his NFL career with issues off the field. Specifically drug and substance abuse. In 2013 he led the NFL with 1,646 receiving yards. The sky was the limit for Gordon and the Browns finally had a bonafide offensive weapon.
The trouble began with a drug suspension costing him a full season in 2015. In 2016 hope was regained for his career as he sat out another season, but this time because of rehab. Last year he sat out the first 11 games and was active for the last 5. From 2014-2017, he missed 56 games.

Gordon is a vested veteran so he is not subject to waivers once cut. If he is traded he will play for the minimum salary and can be offered a tender after the season.
Coach Hue Jackson refused to comment on the situation saying he wanted to move on.
