India Is Hit With Another Deadly Virus

India Is Hit With Another Deadly Virus
  • PublishedJune 22, 2021

The second wave of COVID-19 has declined in India. However, there is a growing concern over Covid-related infections that feast on flesh, according to CNN.

A deadly black fungus spreads throughout the citizens of India. The disease potentially erodes bones and 71 other patients have been battling this infection since April.

A surge in the disease has already been seen in patients in India who have already been labeled diabetic or when the deadly coronavirus triggered diabetes.

One patient became diabetic after his battle with COVID-19 and has lost the feeling on one side of his face and could potentially lose his eye to the fungus that infected nearly 12,000 other Indian citizens already in the year 2021.

ICUs in India are still very busy with COVID patients despite reaching past their peak in cases. These patients may now face black fungus as a secondary illness. To make matters worse, there have been shortages of drugs for patients which will leave doctors to compromise who gets it and who doesn’t.

Other patients have been infected with a multi-system inflammatory syndrome which is when the body’s immune system turns on itself. The best treatment for it is an imported yet expensive drug called Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG).
