Maryland Terrapins basketball coach Mark Turgeon secures his 200th career win

Following a 72-70 road win over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Maryland Terrapins not only got their 20th win of the season but head coach Mark Turgeon secured his 200th career win. This is the seventh straight win for the Terrapins and remain undefeated at home.

Terrapins’ sophomores Jalen Smith and Eric Ayala each led the team with 16 points in the game. Smith added 13 rebounds for a double-double while Ayala added five assists and three rebounds.

Two other players for the Terrapins recorded double-doubles with senior Anthony Cowan Jr. finishing the game with 13 points and 10 assists and freshman Donta Scott finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds. This is the first time the Terrapins have had three players finish with double-doubles in a game since 2001.

Nebraska senior guard Haanif Cheatham led all scorers with 20 points in the game along with six rebounds while junior Thorir Thorbjarnarson finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Mark Turgeon has been head coach of the Maryland Terrapins since the 2011-2012 season accumulating a record of 200-96 with the team. Turgeon is the second fastest coach for the Terrapins to reach 200 wins with Lefty Driessell hold the record securing his 200th career win after 285 games.

Turgeon previously won the Big Ten Coach of the Year award in the 2014-2015 season after leading the Terrapins to a 28-7 record their best record in a single season since their 2001-2002 National Championship season.

The Terrapins will be on the road for their next game when they face off against the Michigan State Spartans.
