Poem Of The Week: “The Black Unicorn”
For this weeks poem we have Ms. Audre Lorde presenting “The Black Unicorn”. Audre Lorde, born February 18th, 1934 and deceased November 17th, 1992, was a well known American artist who specialized in writing. Also was known for being a civil rights activist, feminist, and a librarian. As self-described, the “black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet” utilized her life in order to bring awareness to the climate of the world during her time leading with the injustices of homophobia, sexism, racism, and classism.

The black unicorn is greedy.
The black unicorn is impatient.
The black unicorn was mistaken for a shadow or a symbol and taken through a cold country where mist painted mockeries of my fury.
It is not on her lap where the horn rests
but deep in her moon pit
growing. The black unicorn is restless
the black unicorn is unrelenting
the black unicorn is not
free.
An interesting word of mouth, especially for the trying times of the past, present, and God forbid the future. But before I wrap up this section here are a few things to think about after reading.
