11-Year-Old Boy Shot and Killed in Southeast DC.

An 11-year-old was shot and killed Thursday evening in Southeast DC. The shooting took place on the 2700 block of Naylor Round SE around 6:59 p.m.
Police say five young men and several children were involved in a scuffle when shots were fired into a vehicle. They believe this was a target shooting. The 11-year-old shot has been identified as Karon Brown, who was inside the vehicle during the shooting.
Brown was taken to a firehouse in Prince George’s County before being transferred to Children’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“MPD will be working diligently to find people involved,” said Mayor Muriel Bowser during a press conference at the scene. “This was a child. There were other children in and around the area. Our communities have to speak up and make sure that anyone who knows about this homicide should speak up.”
The shooting occurred a year and two days after the deadly shooting of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson. Eight arrests has been made in connection with the Wilson’s death, including one earlier this week.
“Sadly in the case of Makiyah Wilson, we saw a group of people get out of a car and senselessly shoot across a parking lot. MPD has investigated and has made eight arrests in that case… however, Makiyah is still not with us,” said Bowser.
