A 27-year-old man from Washington, D.C., has been charged in connection with the shooting of an 8-month-old baby in Waldorf, Maryland.

Delvonte Elmore was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault, house invasion, criminal use of a handgun, and other offenses.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, a gunshot occurred in the 3000 block of Gallery Place shortly after noon on April 14. Detectives learned that two males allegedly forced their way into a home, where they discovered a lady cradling her 8-month-old son.

The men broke into the flat in search of another person who was not present. The defendant allegedly placed a gun to the woman’s head, but the gun discharged and injured the infant in the hand during a fight.

The baby boy was transported to a nearby hospital and eventually released after receiving treatment.

Elmore was detained in D.C. on April 18. The second suspect in the crime is being sought by investigators.
